Importance of Education
What is education?
Education is a process that
develops our mind through taking formal lessons from an institution like
school, college or university. It is mental and intellectual training, which
brings opportunities of growth and helps to overcome problems in the way of progress.
Again, the purpose of education is to develop personality and raise skills to face
problems. The goal of education is also to train the individual to choose the
right path to move forward. It improves our mind and purifies our feelings. Education
broadens our perspective and helps us to be aware of our responsibilities.
Definition of education
I can state some opinions of various educators about education. Socrates opines that education is the eradication of falsehood and the discovery of truth.
Plato remarked that education is the capacity to feel pleasure and pain in the right moment and it develops in the body and in the soul of the pupil all the beauty and all the perfection.
Universal Definition of Education
Education is a process and the chief goal of which is to bring about desirable changes in the behavior of learner in the form of acquisition of knowledge, proficiency in skills & development of attitudes.
Necessity of Education
Newman says that education
gives a man a clear conscious view of his own opinions and judgements, a truth
in developing them, an eloquence in expressing them and a force in using them. That
is why education is compared to light which dispels darkness and helps us to
distinguish between truth and falsehood. In 1974, Tanzanian President Julius Nyerere
rightly told at an international conference that the primary purpose of
education was to liberate people from habits and behaviors that limit his humanity.
He added that education should develop humanity and global brotherhood so that
it can act as a catalyst for change towards greater well-being.
Why is education necessary?
Education is one of the
basic needs of human life and is essential for any kind of development. Most
people are deprived of education due to poverty and socio-economic conditions
of a country. Many illiterate people do not have proper knowledge about health,
sanitation, birth control. If they were educated, they could lead healthy and
well-planned lives. Education is one of the best ways to earn money and spend
it wisely. It helps us to make the right decisions in life and to fulfill our
responsibilities. It helps in grain production, food conservation,
environmental protection and fulfillment of our social responsibilities.
Education is the only medium that awakens our logical vision. It spreads the
light of awareness among us and this awareness is a prerequisite for social
development.
Education and Society
Education is a social
process. Because all the education of a person takes place in the social
environment, outside the society no education is possible in life. Man is a
social being and so we get mixed with different types of people and face lots
of problems. The problems we face teach us. In the course of life, people have
to face various problems and so education is the knowledge or experience gained
through problem solving.
Benefits of Education
Education is the knowledge
or skill that solves all the complicated problems. Thus, a person gets
education from the society we live. The goal of education is the behavioral
change. Education helps people to master new behaviors by changing old ones. A
person learns manners and etiquette from family, parents, society and
professional bodies. So, in this way people acquire education.
Importance of Education in Life
People are social and
political creatures. What a child or student sees and learns at home and in the
surroundings is nurtured in educational institutions. Education plays a very
important role in the growth and personality development of the students.
Education helps students to develop as good citizens and patriots. For adapting
to a changing society formal education is greatly necessary for all. So, formal
education plays a fundamental role in managing life properly.

There are many objectives of
education. An educated person gains physical, mental, social and emotional
development. A student learns to develop speech freely, work skillfully and
have movement and behavior development. It gives the student the freedom to
see, hear and speak so that he can learn from the nature and environment of his
choice. Physical excellence and mental satisfaction through wandering in the
realm of sports can be earned through formal education. A learned person achieves
