Culture refers to a full-fledged way of life. Culture is the detail of the ideas and ways of behaving of people of a specific area. Language, music, ideas working system, playing tools, objects indicate a society’s culture. Bangladesh has a rich and diverse cultural dignity. Bangladesh owns developed indigenous cultural traditions. Patterns of culture vary from one individual to another, one class to another class, one society to another society and country to country. These differences are referred to as cultural differences.

The culture of Bangladesh is different from the world cultures. Bangladeshi culture has unique specialty.  It has some different features that make it different from the other cultures of the world. Now a days the cultures of Bangladesh are changing greatly by the foreign culture. By the virtue of information and communication technology it is being changed greatly. Globalization plays a great role in this change.

The people of Bangladesh are constantly growing up in a cultural environment. There is a great uniqueness of Bangladeshi culture. Bangladesh has its own language, flag of national identity, indigenous games and sports, manners and behaviour, rich literature, music and songs and  different lifestyle.

The culture of Bangladesh has been enriched and influenced by various cultural elements of the outside world throughout the ages. It is being changed greatly. The lifestyle of the people of Bangladesh has changed from age to age.

The cultural lifestyle of the people of this country is firstly based on Language. Bengali is the language of the people of Bangladesh. This language is enriched with words derived from other languages. The language has been developed most even though it has been able to preserve its the originality. Many words from different languages such as Arabic, Persian, Hindi, Urdu, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Burmese, Portuguese, Dutch, Gujarati, Marathi, English, French, Spanish, etc. have given a new dimension to the Bengali language. The people of this country can show its dignity in the world space by International Mother Language Day.

The sign of the nation is the most significant for a nation. An important element of culture is signs or symbols. The red green flag which was acquired in 1971 by the great liberation war. It is the national cultural symbol of the people of Bangladesh.

 The eating habits are well known that is fish and rice. The people of Bangladesh are fond of eating mainly rice, fish, vegetables, meat, eggs, milk etc.

There is a great variety of clothing. Most of the people of Bangladesh wear lungi, genji, towel, pajamas-Punjabi, fatwa. City people wear pants, shirts, T-shirts, trousers,. Girls wear sari, blows, petticoat, salwar. Many Muslim woman wear burqa etc. Towels are used everywhere in villages and cities. Girls use powder, nail polish, tip, lipstick, glass bangles, jewelry, earrings, nose rings etc. as cosmetics.

Houses and Residence of Bangladesh


There is a great variation in houses. Shawn or straw sheds on earthen walls are a part of the culture of the people of Bangladesh. In the rural areas of Bangladesh, people mostly used tin huts on mud walls. However, semi-finished houses, pucca buildings can be seen. In urban areas there is an abundance of fully furnished brick- built houses. There are many multi storied modern buildings in the cities and towns. In urban areas also brick built buildings are now found. The inside of the buildings is furnished with modern amenities. Sofas, couches, dining tables, etc. are seen inside the house. Chowki, khat etc. are more noticeable in rural areas.

Religion in Bangladesh

Most of the people in Bangladesh are Muslims. There are also Hindus, Buddhists and Christians in this country. There is a close tie among the multi religious people. Followers of Islam pray in mosque, followers of Hinduism in temples, followers of Buddhism in pagodas and followers of Christians in churches.

Common Religious Festivals

The main religious festivals of Muslims are two Eids, Milad-un-Nabi etc. There are many religious activities such as Hindu Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Ladhi Puja, Manasa Puja, Saraswati Puja and Buddhist full moon of Buddhists and Christmas of Christians etc.

Tribal and Ethnic Cultural heritage in Bangladesh


There is population of various small ethnic groups such as Chakma, Marma, Hajong, Manipuri, Garo, Rakhine etc. The tribal people belong to their own cultural heritage.

Economy of Bangladesh

Bangladesh follows agro based economy. Most of the people are farmers. Farming is their main occupation. There are many government service holders. Doctors, Engineers and  Teachers  are some of the professions.

Natural Resources of Bangladesh

Bangladesh is proud of having many gas fields. It is one of the most important mineral resources. Natural resources like forests, rivers, seas, etc., including the Sundarbans are making a significant contribution to the country's economy.

Social and National Festivals in Bangladesh


The people of Bangladesh are fond of festivals. The enjoy festivals most. New Year and Victory Day are considered as national festivals of the country. People perform various types of entertainment. For example, in the month of Agrahayan Festivals, Poush-Parvan, Pahela Baishakh, Baishakhi Mela etc.

Cultural Activities in the country


Bangladesh has its own cultural activities. People mostly enjoy Jatra, Jarigan, Lokgan, Lalangeeti, Murshidi, Bhatiali, Nazrul Sangeet, Rabindra Sangeet etc.

Most Popular  Traditional Games and Sports in Bangladesh

Games and sports  have given unique features to the culture of the people of this country. Besides Dariyabandha, Kanamachhi, Gollachut, Hadudu,football and cricket are popular sports. Circus, puppet show  at rural fairs is the main attraction.

Developed Education System in Bangladesh

In education sector Bangladesh is progressing most. In addition to general education, madrasa education is widely practiced in Bangladesh. English medium education has occupied important places also. However, a trend of religious education for children can also be noticed.

Bangladesh Culture and Values


In fact, culture is the reflection of people's lifestyle. Bangladesh is proud of having a unique cultural heritage.  Bangladeshi culture is based on the behavior, values, customs, tastes, motifs of Bengali nation and the tribal people of this country.
